Club's International Service Project -

“Constructing Prosthetic limbs for disabled children in Sri Lanka”

by

Dr Bob Parsons,

Founder of "Hope for Children"

About the Project:

Following the recently ended civil war in Sri Lanka, there are thousands of children missing lower body limbs as a result of landmine explosions. One of the main supported projects is a mobile unit that produces high quality prosthetic limbs, particularly for those children living in remote rural communities.

The aim of this project is to produce limbs for 120 children. They will be fitted with artificial limbs and arms according to their needs free of charge. They are trained to use their artificial limbs, and their families will be provided with small grants to help them into school. This will enable these children to be as mobile as possible and continue their education.

Rotary Club of Hong Kong will be funded full amount of this project, which cost HKD 87,330 HKD (£7,100)
